NYFW Favourites

Ah, its that time of the year again - the time I live vicariously through my instagram feed, watching with eyes of envy as bloggers and fashion's most elite soak up the wonderfulness that is New York Fashion Week. Its also September, so we get to see what designers have in store for us in the Spring/Summer of 2015. Much me gusta.

I thought I'd break my blogging dry spell by showing you guys my favourite collections (so far). I know its only halfway through the week but I've got blogging fever AND I have a day off. These two things hardly ever seem to align and so I'm taking advantage of it. Low and behold:

Zimmermann

I'll always have a soft spot for Zimmermann because they are such a taste of home, always reflecting Australia's laidback, carefree and beachy attitude. You can't say their SS15 collection isn't amazing though - I know I'm not just biased. Look at it! I love the lace fabrics, the metallics and the edgy swimwear. Photos really don't do it justice - you have to look at the video of the show (above). These pieces were made to move. Their sillhouettes and layers make them fall and bounce so beautifully on the models. I love how everything is slightly dishevelled, paying tribute to the normcore trend that has enveloped society of late. And those crescent moon mules - SIGH. We all know how I feel about mules.

Meskita

Apologies for some of the crummy photo quality - I found it hard to find images of this show and had to resort to screen grabbing from YouTube. Don't even judge. Moving on, I am seriously swooning over the Greek goddess vibe from Meskita's SS15 collection. Not to mention SO many of my favourite things are included! Capes! Mini backpacks! Matching sets! Sheer maxis! YESSS! I love how there is just almost an overuse of metallics (which can be a little tacky) but the structred shapes and classic, minimal accessories balance it out perfectly. Tell me this collection doesn't make you want to throw on a white and gold maxi dress and jet to the Greek islands. No? Just me?

Rebecca Minkoff

Does anything spell out Spring and Summer more than huge-as-f hats, flowing midi skirts, laidback denim and lace? I don't think so. Rebecca Minkoff's SS15 collection is basically everything I need in my summer wardrobe. I LOVED the hats (we all know I love a good hat), the tassled accessories and the unexpected 3D style glasses. Anyone else remember getting those to look at 3D dinosaur as a kid? I'm into anything that provides 90's nostalgia. This collection is laidback and effortlessly cool - very Serena van der Woodsen. Who doesn't want to dress like her?

Stella Nolasco

No matter how many times I try to redirect my style to monochromatic minimalism (sometimes I wish I was a chic mature woman, alright), I'll always end up being a sucker for bright colours, cool prints and fun textures. Stella Nolasco's SS15 collection was all of that and more. The dresses were beautiful and luxurious whilst still having an edge to them, whether that be bright blue floral prints, sparkling embellishments or ballerina tulle. My absolute favourite pieces were the metallic orange ones - especially the orange lace sweater and metallic orange maxi skirt combo. That's acceptable to wear casually around Adelaide, right? I think I'm in love. I also seriously need that blue Tinkerbell looking mini dress for when I feel like adding some Gatsby glam to my life. Love, love, love.

Think my list is wrong? Got your own favourites from the first half of the week? Shoot me a comment and let me know your thoughts!

'Till next time,
Kate x

  1. Zimmerman: that was SWIMwear????? Adored the rest though.
    Meskita: excellence in construction. Impressive.
Stella: That final dress on the catwalk! Love it!! Other nice things in that collection too.
But Rebecca Minkoff? Yuk. All yours! Not even the drop dead gorgeous hats could liven up that dowdy little collection! :-)
